Five simple steps to better water management

Little changes can sometimes lead to big savings. Investing a little time and money in a straightforward water management plan can help you work out where those changes should be made.

Five simple steps to better water management

  1. Be a champion
Choose a water ‘champion’ to take charge of your water management plan. Encourage staff to make the workplace as water-efficient as possible.
  2. Keep an eye out
Keep track of how much water you’re using – and what it’s costing you. One way of doing this is by submitting meter readings online. Any ‘blips’ could mean a leak somewhere.
  3. It all adds up
Try to work out how much water your business uses on the day-to-day stuff. Filling the kettle takes about 1.5 litres, for example. Brainstorm ways of decreasing the amount of water you use. Your staff may well have some nifty ideas that could help you to make significant savings.
  4. Estimation
Before you put your new ideas into practise, work out which changes best suit your business needs. Where there’s an initial cost, how long is the payback?
  5. Green light
Put your water management plan into action.

Water efficiency isn’t just good news for business – it’s good news for everyone. By saving water now, you help ensure there’ll be enough for future generations. Every business, large or small, can follow a few simple steps to cut down on their consumption..
