When a large water mains pipe serving most of South and Central Glasgow burst on Wednesday the 24th of September 2008, it resulted in many of the area’s businesses and households either losing their water supply or having their water pressure significantly reduced. As soon as we learned about the burst an incident team was instantly set up to start alerting our customers of the problem and help them respond to any specific needs they might have as a result. Other customers made use of our 24 hour emergency contact line to request help and our team immediately put our contingency plan for such events into action. Not everyone lost their water supply but for many, a loss in water pressure could prove equally problematic.
By alerting our customers to the problem as soon as we knew of it we allowed them to get ahead of the game and make alternative arrangements. In many cases our team’s call was gratefully accepted and one example of this was at Barlinnie Prison where problems with water pressure could have resulted in storage tanks failing to refill.
Roy Dunsmore, Estates Manager at HM Prison Barlinnie, said: “I’d like to thank all at Business Stream for the exemplary way that you handled the problem with the water supply to HM Prison Barlinnie. Following the burst water mains in Glasgow on 24 September 2008 we suffered a significant drop in water pressure. Your initial call and ongoing communication not only alerted us to the problem but it let us take remedial actions that allowed us to continue with the day to day business of the prison with minimum disruption to prisoners and staff.”
