Disconnections

If you need to shut off your water supply, we can arrange a water disconnection.

How do I get disconnected?

If you want us to disconnect your water supply, just let us know using our handy disconnection form. Email it to us at disconnectionrequest@business-stream.co.uk or post it to Disconnection team, Business Stream, 7 Lochside View, Edinburgh EH12 9DH.

What will it cost?

Remember you’re not allowed to disconnect the water supply yourself. It has to be done by Scottish Water, as the meter and pipe work belongs to them. You’ll still be liable for water charges if you remove the water meter yourself.

Temporary disconnection

The charge for a temporary disconnection depends on the work involved, such as pipework alterations. We might also need to make a charge to cover the cost of reconnecting you later. For current rates, see our charges document.

Permanent disconnection

If you’d like us to disconnect your water supply permanently, we need to ask you for a deposit of £250 plus VAT at the standard rate in advance. If the disconnection ends up costing less than this, we’ll refund you the difference. If it’s more, we’ll send you a bill to cover the extra costs. Full rates are set out in our charges.

Disconnection for non-payment

If you haven’t paid your bills for some time, we may have to shut off your supply temporarily. But don’t worry – you’ll be reconnected as soon as you’ve made payment. Again, we’ll need to make a charge if this happens.

The Water Industry Commission regulates this process. They have a useful document that tells you how this works.
