Track inspections

Before connecting you up to the water mains, Scottish Water needs to check your pipework makes the grade. This visit is known as a track inspection.

When will my track inspection be?

The track inspection takes place when all your pipework is laid and you’re ready for connection. Scottish Water will check the pipework has been laid properly and according to the plan.

What does it cost?

Your first track inspection is covered in your initial quote from us.
If further inspections are needed, there’ll be an extra charge.
For 2012/13, each track inspection costs £54.76 plus VAT at the standard rate.

What do I need to do?

Be prepared for the inspection – this will help you avoid any delays and additional inspection charges.

Make sure you’re aware of your responsibilities and any conditions that need to be satisfied. We’ll keep you informed of these.

In particular you should:

  • arrange for any testing required (such as chlorination and disinfections) to be done at the same time as your track inspection – Scottish Water has the right to witness these tests
  • make sure you’ve submitted and paid for a building water application – this needs to be done before the track inspection

What happens next?

Once they’re satisfied everything’s OK, Scottish Water will give the go-ahead. Your water supply or waste water system will be connected within 14 business days of the inspection.
