Getting connected – the costs involved

There are four elements to the new connection charge.

These cover the initial planning work, the connection itself and any alterations needed to accommodate it:

  • The design charge is for examining your development plans.
  • The infrastructure charge is made for all new connections. It is used by Scottish Water to fund general growth on the network.
  • The connection and inspection charge is for actually making the connection.
  • The reasonable cost contribution is paid by Scottish Water if the development uses Part 2 or 3 assets.

We realise that this might all sound a bit fiddly, so we’ve put together documents to guide you through each application and properly explain each party, you can find them next to our application forms.

Once you’re connected

Once your water connection is hooked up, and provided the property isn’t vacant, we’ll start billing you for the water you use. Have a look at the charges section for more information.

Also, please take a moment to read our terms and conditions, to get a better understanding of our responsibilities – as well as what we’ll need from you – once your new water connection is in place.
