Automated meter reading technology helped a major operator understand water use in its leisure centres – and save money.
Closing the energy gap
Business Stream advised North Lanarkshire Leisure on where to install automated meter reading and how to act on the water consumption data gathered. We also recommended ‘downsizing’ a number of water meters to save on water charges.
The leisure provider has gained by:
- finding and fixing leaks
- reduced energy usage for water heating process
- acting on the information gathered to reduce its water use
- getting meters of the right size – changing one meter alone saved £8,000.
The exercise has boosted the company’s sustainability efforts. It expects to hit at least half of its £90,000 energy efficiency target through more effective water use.
