The way you're charged is changing

Previously you would have been charged using the rateable value (RV) for your property. This provided us with an indication of your likely water consumption but didnít always reflect your actual consumption.

Water meters are the fairest and most accurate way to measure how much water you use. Therefore, you only pay for the water you use, waste water, fixed charges and drainage charges.

By using less water, youíre reducing your water and waste water charges. Youíll also be directly contributing to helping the environment by reducing carbon emissions associated with the treatment of water.

Your metered billing will be phased in over the next three years, starting from 1 April 2009:

April 2008 to March 2009 April 2009 to March 2010 April 2010 to March 2011 April 2011 onwards
Metered charges 0% 33% 67% 100%
Un-metered charges 100% 67% 33% 0%

You will now be billed quarterly rather than annually and you will receive your first bill by 30 June 2009. This phasing has been specified by the Scottish Government and the Water Industry Commission for Scotland as part of the business meter installation programme. This will allow you time to adjust to this new way of billing.

How do metered charges work?

Your charges are made up of water charges, waste water charges, fixed charges and drainage charges. Your water usage is metered, waste water is generally 95% of your water usage, fixed charges are based on your meter size and your drainage charges are based on your RV.
