Keen to cut its water bills, Edinburgh Leisure – operator of a string of major pools and sports centres – asked Business Stream for help in becoming more water efficient.
Getting leisure centres in shape
Our solution involved installing automated meter reading at key sites to log data and set baseline water use for each site. We then set up a system to alert Edinburgh Leisure and our experts when a site exceeded this water use limit over the course of a day.
The benefits so far include:
- discovery and repair of major water leaks – one repair alone saved £26,000 a year
- further water savings through installation of water-saving devices
- major progress towards Edinburgh Leisure’s environmental targets
- more accurate water bills
- a new awareness of water management among staff at each site.
