Forestry Commission

Asking Business Stream to redesign and run its waste water treatment plant resolved a huge environmental challenge for the Forestry Commission.

Lifting the burden

The Forestry Commission is responsible for a private sewerage works serving a village in the Cairngorms National Park. But the ageing plant was failing to cope with modern-day needs.

The Commission asked Business Stream to help it avoid the risk of discharging damaging waste water in a protected area.

Our solution involved:

  • taking over the operation and maintenance of the plant
  • creating a temporary ‘hybrid’ technical solution to ensure compliance
  • designing a modern sewerage treatment plant, equipped for the area’s future needs.

The new plant is designed to allow it to be adopted as part of the national network. That will relieve the Forestry Commission of waste water obligations – allowing it to focus on its core work.
