Water meters are the best and most accurate way to measure how much water you use. They are fairer because you only pay for the water you use – when you pay a flat rate, you don’t always see the financial benefit of saving water. And because meters encourage us to use less water, they’re better for the environment.
How can you get one installed?
As part of the meter installation project, sponsored by the government, Scottish Water are installing meters for free in every business where this is possible.
If you haven’t already had a meter installed, you should have one by the middle of 2009 at no cost (as long as installation is physically possible).
Almost all businesses will be metered by the end of the programme. It is anticipated that metering charges will be phased over a three year period starting from April 2009.
Taking care of your meter
Once you have a meter, it’s up to you to protect it from extreme weather and make sure it doesn’t get damaged.
But even when well protected, meters sometimes stop working properly. So we will arrange for routine maintenance to make sure yours keeps functioning as it should.
If you think there's is a problem with your meter, email our customer response centre at customer.service@business-stream.co.uk or call 0845 602 8855.
