Unmetered water supply charges
If you don’t have a water meter, your water charges are based on the rateable value of your property.
Unmetered charges
Most customers now have water meters, but some are unmetered. In some properties, it’s not physically possible to install a meter.
Without a meter, we can’t tell how much water you’re actually using. So that part of your bill is based on a set amount per £ of your rateable value. Full details are set out in our charges. [PDF 407KB]
Rateable values
We work out your bill based on the rateable value of your property as it was on 31 March 2000. If your property was built between 31 March 2000 and 31 March 2005 we’ll use the 2005 valuation. If it was built since then we will use the current rateable value given by the Scottish Assessors Association.
Your bill includes a fixed charge and a volume-related charge. The volume element is worked out on a set rate per £ of your rateable value.
These are the current charges (for 2012/13)
| Meter size | Water | Waste Water |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed charge | £156.16 | £174.34 |
| Volumetric charge (per £ of RV) | £0.03000 | £0.04976 |
What you can do
If you don’t think your rateable value charges reflect your actual usage, you can apply for a reassessment.

The benefits of a meter
Having a meter installed allows you to monitor your water use. It means you only get charged for what you use. You can use our form to apply for a meter.
