Unmetered water supply

If you don’t have a water meter, the charges for your water supply are based on the rateable value of your property. But there’s no need for you to lose out.

Unmetered charges

Most customers now have water meters, but some are unmetered. In some properties, it’s not physically possible to install a water meter.

Without a water meter, we can’t tell how much water you’re actually using. So that part of your bill is based on a set amount per £ of your rateable value. Full details are set out in our charges.

What you can do

Of course, businesses with the same rateable value can use different amounts of water. If you think you may be losing out because you have an unmetered water supply, you can apply for a reassessment of your charges.

The benefits of a water meter

Having a water meter installed allows you to monitor your water use. It means you only get charged for what you use. You can use our form to apply for a meter.

Installation costs

If you apply for a reassessment, Scottish Water might give you the option to have a water meter installed. In that case they can help with the cost of installation. See our reassessment guide for more details.
