Businesses across Scotland are benefiting from fairer water charges as a result of the full business water metering initiative.
In 2004, the Scottish Government and the Water Industry Commission for Scotland decided to change the way businesses are charged for water and waste water.
In the years that followed, water meters were fitted free of charge in thousands of Scottish businesses, ensuring they’ll pay only for the water they use.
The scheme is now complete. April 2009 saw the end of the meter installations. Metered charging has been phased in for the businesses who took part. Full metered charging is due to take effect from April 2011.
