When we contact you

If we need to call you or visit your business for any reason, the first thing we will do is put your mind at rest by making sure you know that it’s us.

Visiting your business

There will be times when we need to visit your premises to check your supply, or carry out work.

All our staff and contractors carry identification. So if you’re unsure about whether it’s a genuine visit, make sure you ask to see this.

What’s more, we will never ask you to hand over money in person. If someone claims they are from Business Stream, but does ask you for money, please report this to the police – and let us know.

Calling you

When we call you, the first thing we will do is check we’re speaking to the right person, just in case we’ve got your number down incorrectly or you have lost your phone.

To do this, we will ask you to confirm your billing details. This will just be one piece of information that only you will know – but not your address.

Once you give us that information, we’ll be able to confirm the account address – so you will know it’s us calling.

If for any reason you’re worried it may not be a genuine call, please explain your concerns and call us back on our main number 0845 602 8855. Simply mention that someone has just tried to contact you, and we will happily confirm whether it was us or not.

NOTICE: Bogus calls

We’ve been told by Scottish Water that a number of businesses have been targeted by bogus callers, saying they are the water board and asking them to hand over money for a fake scheme.

If you do get a call or visit from someone who claims to be from the water board, and then asks you for money, please hang up and report it to the police.

We would like to reiterate that our staff will also prove their identity, and will never ask for money.
