Changes to new connections from 1 April 2011

Are you planning to apply for a new water or waste water connection soon? If so, please take a note of the following changes as of 1 April 2011.

Building water

As a result of a review carried out by our regulator, the Water Industry Commission for Scotland (WICS):

  • for domestic builds, you should now apply for building water directly to Scottish Water, rather than through us
  • building water charges can be managed on a separate metered account, using either an existing metered supply or one you apply for using our form J
  • if building water is not required (ie you will not access the public network at any point during the build process), you can let us know on your connection application form and avoid having to complete form J separately

All of these changes should make the application process simpler and our charges clearer, so that you only pay for the water you use.

Deposits

Our charges are updated every year, and are issued and approved by the industry regulator. From 1 April 2011, the new connections deposit will change to £78.

The deposit will only apply for the following types of connection:

  • permanent water connections – form A
  • permanent waste water/sewerage connections – form B
  • new water infrastructure for industrial / commercial development(s) – form C

Your deposit will be deducted from your final connection charges, but if you decide not to go ahead with the connection, we will retain the deposit.
