Business Stream customers reduce water consumption by 2.8 billion litres

Business Stream, Scotland’s main non-domestic water supplier has today unveiled figures showing how it has helped its customers use significantly less water since it was created in 2006. 

The company, which is the leading supplier of water and waste water services to businesses in Scotland, says it delivered consumption reduction savings of over £5.5m, much of this coming since the non-domestic market opened to competition in April 2008. This equates to approximately 2.8 billion litres, enough to fill 1120 Olympic sized swimming pools.

Business Stream granted operating licences by industry regulator

Business Stream, a new company set up to service business customers across Scotland’s £330m retail water sector has been granted its permanent operating licences to compete in the forthcoming deregulated market for non-domestic water customers.

Granted by the Water Industry Commission for Scotland (WIC), the licences allow the new company to supply water and waste water services to Scotland’s businesses ahead of the market for business customers opening to competition in April this year.

Formerly known as Scottish Water Business Stream, Business Stream became a stand alone company within the Scottish Water group in November 2006 in preparation for market deregulation, which comes into effect in April 2008.
