Reassessment Calculator

What can reassessment save your business?

If you don't have a water meter and are charged on assessed consumption, this calculator will help you understand if your usage should be calculated more accurately based on a consumption reassessment.

How the calculator works

By entering information about your business, the calculator will return the following results:

  • An assessed cost that will be close to the charges you are currently paying for your water and waste water.
  • A reassessed cost of what you could be paying following reassessment.

If these two values are significantly different then you should apply for reassessment.

If the information you provide isn’t quite accurate your results will be a bit off. This might mean that the actual charge following reassessment will be different to what’s shown here, so please be as accurate as you can.

Notes to consider when using the calculator

  1. Assessed foul charges are calculated, unless otherwise agreed, using 95% return only, in line with the Wholesale Charges Scheme.
  2. Current charges are 2011/12 retail charges.
  3. Trade Effluent charging considerations are not included in the calculator. This may impact on your assessment by Scottish Water.
  4. Tariffs and tariff calculations are quoted in line with the Wholesale Charges Scheme for the Financial Year 2010/11.
  5. Reassessed charges are calculated based on the middle part of a group assigned for water use estimated under reassessment.
  6. The number of average full time equivalents should be entered as the number of average annual full time equivalents.
  7. There are no contribution calculations within this calculator. You will be informed about this part of the process once Scottish Water have reviewed your application.
  8. This calculator should be used with reference to the Unmeasured Supply Points Reassessment Process and Reassessed Charges Review Form.
  9. If you have not previously been surveyed for a meter by Scottish Water they may visit your site as part of this process to determine if a meter installation is possible.
  10. Your charges will not be applied to your account retrospectively, new charges will start from your application date.

Average number of employees

A full time employee is expected to work 1800 hours per annum (8 hours per day, 5 days per week, 52 weeks per year with 35 days leave).

The number of full time equivalent employees should therefore be calculated as follows:
Total hours worked per annum for all employees at supply point ÷ 1800.

Rateable value

If you don't know what your rateable value is you can find this on the top right corner of your latest bill.
