This year’s drought conditions have resulted in significant impact to the River Severn, one of Bristol Water’s major water sources, leading to the Environment Agency and Natural Resources Wales applying for a drought order to protect this essential water source.
As a result, Bristol Water are working closely with both agencies to protect this vital natural water environment.
The UK has experienced its fifth heatwave of the year and one of the driest periods in recent years, which led to the Environment Agency declaring over 70% of England, including Bristol, in drought.
The hosepipe ban is necessary to ensure we can continue to supply enough water to meet people's essential needs, as well as minimising the impact on the local rivers and the environment.
While these restrictions mainly apply to household water use, some businesses will be affected.
Business water usage accounts for nearly a third of all water usage in England, and businesses are being asked to reduce consumption wherever possible to help manage the situation and avoid further restrictions.
