Temporary Use Ban for the Cambridge Water region

Due to prolonged dry conditions, Cambridge Water has implemented a Temporary Use Ban (TUB), also known as a hosepipe ban, for all their customers. The ban is in effect as of Friday 17 July 2026.

This is following one of the driest springs in recent years and exceptionally warm weather throughout the summer so far. Record-breaking weather conditions have significantly reduced river flows and groundwater reserves, requiring urgent action across sectors. This is compounded by a 30% increase in water use for activities including gardening, car washing and pool filling.

These restrictions will help make sure there's enough water for homes, businesses and essential services, while protecting our local rivers and the environment.

Monitoring

While these restrictions mainly apply to household water use, some businesses will be affected.

Business water usage accounts for nearly a third of all water usage in England, and businesses are being asked to reduce consumption wherever possible to help manage the situation and avoid further restrictions.
