Edinburgh-based Business Stream, one of the UK’s largest water retailers, has signed another multi-million-pound contract with Greggs.

As part of the latest three-year deal Business Stream will provide the water and wastewater services to Greggs’ nine UK manufacturing sites and over 1,400 shops. To support Greggs’ sustainability targets, a key focus for the retailer will be to work with the company to help identify further water efficiencies across its UK estate.

In February 2021, Greggs launched ‘The Greggs Pledge’, which announced ten ambitions that the company was committed to achieving by 2025. In addition to supporting stronger and healthy communities, the baker has also pledged to create a safer planet by going carbon neutral and reducing food waste.

The Greggs Pledge is closely aligned to Business Stream’s vision to make a positive difference, which recently saw the retailer achieve its pledge to reduce its carbon footprint by a quarter within a 12-month period.

As part of the contract, Greggs will also continue to benefit from consolidated billing and a dedicated account management service, which includes day-to-day support and 24/7 emergency assistance, when required.

Jo Dow, Chief Executive of Business Stream, said: “We’re delighted to have signed a new contract with Greggs. As a responsible retailer we’re committed to taking steps to positively impact the environment and society as a whole – so it’s fantastic to be working with customers like Greggs who share this commitment. By working with Greggs to reduce their water use we can help to deliver financial savings and support their environmental targets too”.

Ally Stephenson, Head of Purchasing for Greggs, said: “We’re very pleased to have signed a new contract with Business Stream. Our focus will be to continue to work together to identify and deliver efficiencies across our sites, helping to support our pledge to create a safer planet.”

Business Stream announced last month that over the past year they have saved customers across the UK just under £32million through discounts and water and energy efficiency measures.
