Edinburgh based water retailer Business Stream has signed up to the Government backed Scottish Business Pledge.

The value-led partnership between the Scottish Government and businesses is designed to boost productivity and competitiveness and support responsible employers that are taking positive steps to engage their workforces and strive for a better Scotland.

Business Stream has made the Pledge in recognition of its ongoing efforts to promote business innovation, as well as support youth engagement and community involvement across its organisation. Most recently the company has expanded its Modern Apprenticeship scheme; worked in partnership with Business in the Community to introduce a volunteering programme; launched a charity panel; and introduced a raft of activities designed to improve employees’ wellbeing and engagement. The retailer also meets the Pledge’s mandatory requirement to be a Real Living Wage employer.

Jo Dow, Chief Executive of Business Stream, commented: “We are proud to have signed up to the Scottish Business Pledge alongside other successful Scottish companies. As a responsible business we are passionate about driving forward our efforts to make a positive difference for our people, our customers, our local communities and the environment, and as part of this we remain committed to meeting the requirements of the Pledge.”

A spokesperson from the Scottish Government commented: ‘We are delighted to announce that Business Stream have made their commitment to the Scottish Business Pledge, bringing together various elements that have been shown to improve productivity and competitiveness, and build sustainable growth that also achieves fairness, equality, opportunity and innovation’.

The water firm recently announced it had generated over £250 million in new contract wins in the two years since the English retail water market opened in April 2017. The company also confirmed it is a finalist in four categories at the 2019 UK Customer Experience Awards, which will take place in October.
